About Us

So what is AmeCon?

AmeCon is a UK-based, volunteer and fan-run convention, celebrating Japanese animation, comics and culture.

Since 2004 we have run events across the country where people can get together to share in their love of anime, manga, games and culture. Over the years we have seen run at different venues, with changes in committee and technology, but one thing has always stayed the same: Our dedication to making sure everyone has a great time and wants to come back again.

What’s an AmeCon event like, then?

AmeCon events are 3 day residential conventions, typically starting on Friday and finishing up Sunday night. For those three days you can come and join in with hundreds of fellow anime fans to have fun and make fantastic memories together.

What is there to do?

There is a lot to do at our events!

We’ve got panels run by members of our fantastic community – you can learn something new, watch something old and whacky, take part in a live game show or get your hands dirty making something amazing.

Perhaps you’ll want to take part in the thriving cosplay community, including taking a turn in our Cosplay Masquerade. You can put your great talent on show in our Omake, where our community shows us there best dancing, singing, comedy, or anything that will get the crowd cheering. And if things don’t go right, our cosplay team have the tools and expertise to get you back out there looking your best.

As well as panels and cosplay, you can enjoy a range of classic video games at our games room, sing your heart out at karaoke, or enjoy a tabletop game or RPG in our traditional games area. You can get some shopping in at our Dealers room, with a range of traders, artists and makers, or see what treasures people have put on offer at our Bring and Buy.

There’s also plenty of opportunities to relax and make new friends, chilling out at the bar, watching some anime at one of our showings, or just hanging around taking in the convention atmosphere which is the beating heart of every event.

And in the evening?

The entertainment doesn’t stop at dinnertime. In the evenings we make sure there’s always something to do. Whether it’s parties, live music or our traditional Cosplay Ball, we always try and make sure that the fun only stops when our attendees are good and ready for it to stop.

That all sounds great! So what is AmeChibi?

AmeChibi is what we call a smaller scale AmeCon event. All the content, but in a smaller, cosier environment. While our flagship events typically ran at more than a thousand attendees, AmeChibi aims to bring the same excitement and content in a smaller package.

We debuted the AmeChibi in 2015, hoping to fill a gap in the market complementing some of the other events running at the time. Aside from some… exciting moments that we didn’t plan for… it was a great success! AmeChibi returned in 2020… or more accurately 2022 after pandemic restrictions were relaxed enough for events like ours to make a comeback.

AmeCon’s original tagline back in 2004 was “An Anime Convention For Everyone” …No, seriously, look:

Whether we’re running an AmeChibi event, or a larger AmeCon event, we aim to create a fantastic environment where anyone that’s a fan of anime, manga, games, cosplay and Japanese culture can come together for a good time, sharing the things that we love.

So that’s what AmeCon is. Who are you?

The Committee

The AmeCon Committee is a group of community members who volunteer their individual talents, drive and above all time to put together every AmeCon convention. We are all part of the UK anime community, and all of us volunteered to help out to put on the best events we possibly can. We have decades of experience in events running and many of us started out as Gophers or other volunteers.

Is it a business?

While AmeCon is registered as a business, we do not operate as a for-profit company. None of us are paid for this, and any money that we have left over at the end of each event either goes to making the next event better, or to charity.

There are no share holders, investors or business targets. Only our own ideas, passion and dedication to what we love. The event is run by the fandom, for the fandom.

For those who want our legal details, the company is:
Anime Manga Events Ltd
Company No. 15842435

No profit?! Why are you doing this?!

Good question! I ask myself every day…

Actually I don’t, because he answer is very simple. Dedication. We are all part of this community and are dedicated to putting on a great show for all the wonderful people that are here with us. Every event we host brings us into contact with hundreds of people with different backgrounds, tastes and passions, and every one of them brings something unique that makes the whole community special. We love the community because we’re all part of the community, and we want to bring you all the kind of event we want to attend.
